When you get a last minute invite for a weekend camping trip, do you stay or do you go?

I had nothing ready. My husband was in another country and I was home with the kids. Our adventure van was in the middle of a solar-panel installation (by said husband) and our weekend loomed ahead like an empty canvas of homebound-ness. I had never camped with my kids without my husband.

So we went.

The invite came in at 6am and was confirmed by the time I dropped my boys off at school at 8:25. I had 6 hours to wrap up my work, pack and prep, before picking my kids back up to roll out of town and make it to our destination by sunset.

Mission accomplished.

We rolled into our campsite at Dinosaur National Monument at 7pm, 2 hours and 49 minutes of driving in our rearview mirror.
