Last October, Jordan and I went camping outside of Gateway, Colorado and loved it so much that we planned to return with the kids a month later and stay at the incredible Gateway Canyons Resort. In that one month span, covid-19 cases began to skyrocket in Colorado and we no longer felt safe taking the trip. The resort was great allowing us to rebook our stay without a penalty, and we selected a random weekend in May to return as we wondered, “what will life look like in May 2021?”

A quick snap out our hotel room window.

Turns out, life in May 2021 doesn’t look half bad. Us grown-ups are vaccinated, cases are on the decline, and it once again feels safe enough to travel to Gateway and stay in a hotel. It’s also worth mentioning that Gateway Canyons is the perfect place to stay as we creep slowly out of our pandemic reclusion: everything is outside, and with only 72 rooms sprinkled among the massive property, you’re never really near anyone else. Throughout the weekend we felt like we had the entire place to ourselves, even though the resort was sold out.

The gardens, ponds, and paths throughout the resort lend themselves to aimless wandering.

Coming up later this week: what we love doing in and around Gateway and why we’ll definitely be back.
