We spent three weeks in search of the best playgrounds in Innsbruck. Here are our top picks:

Rapoldi Park

Slightly off the beaten path, but still close to downtown Innsbruck. The playground was also conveniently located within a huge park next to our Airbnb, so the kids could roam without any cars nearby. More about Rapoldi Park here.

Castle Park (Spielplatz im Hofgarten)

Another park we spent a lot of time at since it was set back away from busy streets and paths within a larger park (Hofgarten). The big slide and castle facade create lots of opportunities for imaginary play. The hedge maze isThere’s also a great water/sand feature that turns on May 1st. More about Spielplatz im Hofgarten here.

Shipwreck / Pirate Park (Spielplatz im Waltherpark)

Close to old town Innsbruck and the famous colored houses, this playground is small but fun.

Der Bäcker Ruetz – Mariahilfpark

A dream come true: a playground just outside a Bakerei Ruetz so I could sit back and sip a cappuccino while the boys played. With slightly older kids, this would be the perfect place to do some light work while the kids play.

Tivoli Spielplatz

Spielplatz near University of Innsbruck International House

This place had the most amazing seesaw we’ve ever seen. Our kids were a little too little to fully enjoy it, but it was still a favorite spot with lots of other fun features. A great place to picnic along the river.

Seegerland

Alpine Zoo

There’s a nice playground inside the Alpine Zoo, which honestly, was our favorite part of the Alpine Zoo. Not sure if the playground alone is worth the admission price, though. We appreciated the features for little kids, as well as the stuff for bigger kids (not that little kids ever want to play on the little stuff…).

This is just our shortlist of favorite parks, but the city of Innsbruck has this extensive list of every single playground. Pretty cool! …but sadly something I didn’t find until we were already back home. Next time we visit we’ll have fun working our way through the list.
